“My decision to join the Hospice Foundation Board was triggered by observing first-hand the hospice care received by a dear friend and the tremendous physical, emotional and spiritual support not only for him but equally for his family members as they dealt with the grieving at his loss. This experience affected me deeply and helped me realize just how important hospice care can be in minimizing the stresses and discomfort while maximizing the dignity and sense of control in end-of-life situations. I came to believe that hospice care should be universally available to those who need it.
As a Board member, it is extremely fulfilling to learn more about the wonderful agencies which deliver various aspects of hospice care and, even more impressively, the incredibly dedicated, empathetic people who have committed themselves to work in an arena which is so emotionally challenging, yet can also be so fulfilling. Helping to raise and manage funds for such a cause and then to assist in the grant process for organizations, all of which need and deserve our support, is extremely fulfilling. I only wish we could come closer to providing even more of the funds they require to make hospice care available to all who need it.” – John Young
