Catholic Charities, Diocese of Monterey
2012 Grant
$20,000
This grant funds professional bereavement counseling, complex grief interventions for low-income residents of the Monterey Peninsula.
For some people, the cycle of grief may not begin for six months or longer after their loss, well after relatives and friends have gone home and returned to their routines, the phone has stopped ringing so often, the house has become quiet.
Some people find strength, help and support through local grief group support programs and complete their course after several weeks. Others may prefer more privacy in their grief, or they may still be having difficulty functioning successfully without additional, longer-term bereavement help. Grief can also be multi-layered, with complex emotional issues that require special interventions.
This grant fulfills these special need by providing ongoing grief counseling for these individuals with the goal of helping them move forward in their lives.
