Salinas High School Choir, under the direction of Dale
Harrison, performed at the Trees of Life celebration at the
National Steinbeck Center.
At the
conclusion of festive 2009 holiday ceremonies, Trees of Life
were lit the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas on Dec.
10; Veteran's Memorial Plaza in Hollister on Dec. 11; at the
Stanton Theater in King City on Dec. 13; and at the Monterey
Conference Center on Dec. 15.
Check out these slide shows of the celebrations:
Lights on the
trees were dedicated in honor or in memory of someone and
represented a donation to support hospice care locally.
When lit at night, each Tree of Life could be seen against the backdrop of the night
sky from blocks around the area. Monterey Mayor Chuck
Della Sala congratulated Hospice Foundation on its
fundraising and grant-making achievements and proclaimed
Dec. 15 Trees of Life Day in Monterey.
The 2009 Trees
of Life campaign raised $72,232 for hospice care locally.
The funds are a vital source of the grants Hospice Foundation
awards each year to end-of-life care programs and services in Monterey and San
Benito counties. Ten local
organizations (See Grant
Recipients) received funding this year totaling $1.038
million.
